Sneak Peek: Maria & Ben’s wedding

I shot Maria and Ben’s wedding last night in Lampasas, TX. Maria is one of the sweetest people I have ever met! I can’t say much because I’m about to be on my way to McMurtrie Farms grand opening, where Ben & I will have a booth set up. After the opening we will be heading to Dallas for WPPI road show which starts at 8am tomorrow morning. It’s going to be a long day… did I mention I have 3 engagement sessions scheduled this week? Make that a long WEEK!

I’ll be posting the slideshow very soon though, my first wedding with my new Canon 5d markII and my awesome new audio equipment. (including sennhizer lapel mic and Zoom H4n)

Icons of Photography: Elliott Erwitt

While Ben & I were picking up my new 5D markII today at Precision Camera, we noticed a sign reading that Elliott Erwitt would be giving a lecture at the Blanton Museum of Art. I remember looking at Erwitt’s work when I was in high school and it was truly inspiring. He started as a commercial photographer and along his way would take amazing black and white fine art photographs. He just seemed to capture the most perfect of moments and I can relate when I try to shoot weddings. During his lecture he briefly explained some of his most famous photos and answered questions, he is quite amusing. I also ran into my favorite college photography teacher, Nine Francois, which was a treat and reminded me of how much I kind of miss school.

Here is one of his more famous photos.

After the lecture Ben & I decided to wander around downtown area to test out my new camera and to remind ourselves why we got into shooting weddings in the first place… because we love ART and we love to CAPTURE MOMENTS. I will be going to more of these art lectures in the future, they are refreshing.

Austin Wedding Photography: Katie & Steven-9.19.09

On Saturday I shot Katie and Steven’s wedding at the Vista on Seward Hill. BEAUTIFUL Austin venue that I would highly recommend to people looking for an outdoor wedding venue. Anthony, the manager, did a great job DJing and coordinating the whole night. Katie & Steven were a very sweet couple who spent most of there reception making sure to talk to every single guest that attended, which I really admired. If I had to plan my wedding it would be a lot like this one.

I added a couple of the photos from the rehearsal dinner at Bistro 88. My photojournalist skills played a big part in this wedding (as well as the 135mm F2.0 lens), I captured a lot of smiling faces and I liked it :)

I also need to give props to one of the best officiants I have ever met, Kim Session, of Weddings to go, she made the ceremony really personal to the Katie and Steven, and custom wrote vows for them based on them as a couple. Truly touching.

I knew this was going to happen eventually… but I didn’t think it would happen so soon, at the very end of one of the speeches some interrupted, ‘Kanye style’, and announced that someone else had ‘one of the best weddings of the year’…

High school photography lecture

[caption id="attachment_1260" align="alignleft" width="300" caption=""][/caption]

On Wednesday Ben & I made a one day trip to Houston to visit my high school photography teacher, Mrs. Crocker. As I mention in my ‘About me’ in my info & pricing guide my high school photography teacher played a huge part into why I continued photography into college. After following me on facebook and keeping up with my blogs, she asked me to make a little presentation to her advanced photo classes. I was pretty excited and honored to be asked but not sure what to talk about! The day before I put together a powerpoint slideshow basically showing some of my old work, lens flares, hdrs, simple lighting, more complex lighting, studio work, prime lenses, the difference between a cropped and full frame sensor, and a little bit of the business side. Forty-five minutes was not enough to say everything I wanted to say, even though I had barely planned what to say! [so naturally I will be coming back :)]. Most students were pretty in to what I was saying, some more so than others of course, but it was really cool to just have the answers to what they wanted to know. I never thought I would be talking about having a successful photography business in the classroom that I once used to sit in. Cy-creek high school has changed SO MUCH since I graduated, I couldn’t even find my way around! They’ve been remodeling for a few years now. I ended up running into my sophomore English teacher, I don’t think she remembered me, but it was still cool.

I really hope I get to give more lectures in the future but for now I’ll just stick to high school students.

Becky & Steven’s slideshow-9.13.09

Another wedding that was almost rained out… but I think it was just meant to happen today because as soon as we walked outside to take pictures or got ready to begin the ceremony, the rain settled down. Becky and Steven had a wonderfully simple wedding at the House on the Hill, a cute little venue on Bee Caves Rd- I would highly recommend it for smaller weddings. Becky & Steven were so calm all day, nothing else seemed to matter except the fact that they were going to be getting married that day, rain or shine. Since Becky & Steven decided to see each other before hand, we had a chance to get some really fun group shots. Props to Steven’s dad for bringing balloons to the wedding, how awesome! The day turned out to be beautiful

Brandi & Trey’s Wedding Slideshow

This is my first time to experiment with the software SoundSlides- pretty awesome. This is also the first time I have used audio from the wedding itself in a slideshow, something I have never seen anyone do before. I just took the best man’s speech and over laid some good background music to go with the photos, something I will definitely be doing in more weddings to come. So look forward to it!

I finished shooting this wedding about 5 hours ago and here are the pics. I really wanted to get them up before Brandi & Trey leave on their honeymoon for Jamaica. The wedding was at the Wingate up in Round Rock and was small, sweet, simple, and full of love.
I shot Brandi’s bridals at the capitol a couple months ago and her and Trey’s sister were just a blast to shoot with. A sweet couple with a lot of heart, I’m glad I could be a part of this rainy Thursday wedding.

Check out Ben’s awesome video trailer HERE.
