Today I tagged along to Ben’s bridal session for Marlene at the capitol in Austin. Of course right when we showed up to shoot it was just about to POUR, so we ended up staying inside the whole time. I mostly assisted with lighting on this shoot, lugging around flashes/umbrellas/stands to be triggered with the new pocket wizards… but I like to take my own shots on the way, like these two. I seem to find beauty in some very simple situations, against a plain white wall the right expression can look stunning (props to Marlene) and an area where people normally take smoke breaks seemed to work as the perfect spot for a fine art bridal portrait. One key thing in finding random spots to shoot is… GOOD LIGHTING, absolutely essential- especially when shooting inside. We used one off camera 430exII, if not two, for just about every picture we took today. Good lighting does not need to be fancy, a simple speedlite flash on stand with white umbrella triggered with pocket wizard (with the right settings) would work just fine.
So despite all the rain, the shoot went well… moral of the story, if you just look a little deeper a good portrait scene can be found anywhere :)
