WPJA Award

I have good news. Better than good news. Awesome news.

I got eighth place in WPJA’s (wedding photojournalist association) 2010 Quarter 1 silhouettes, shadows, and good light category. WPJA is (I think) the most legit of all wedding photography associations. There is an approval process to get in and the contests are judged by some of the best photojournalists, EVER. Thousands of photos are submitted from across the world for the contests they hold every quarter. and I got 8th. I’m very happy about this. Sometimes you can see my photo on the front page (it changes, so you may have to refresh. Link.

It’s official: I’m a god mother

Yes, the day has come finally come! I took a break from editing wedding photos to visit my brand new baby God-daughter, Emma, born in Austin at 8lbs 7oz at 6:23pm. See Kirstin’s maternity photos here.

I’m going to be a God-mother!!

Yup, you heard right. In less than 2 weeks I will be the proud God-mother of baby Emma. Kirstin is my God-sister (I know that’s a term NO ONE seems to use but us) but she is practically my sister and I have known her since I was a baby myself…. so I am incredibly excited that her and David have chosen me to be a part of her life… FOREVER! I was really excited about this particular picture so I had to post it TONIGHT!! As you can see… I’m quite excited in general. :) More to come later on of course!

High school photography lecture

[caption id="attachment_1260" align="alignleft" width="300" caption=""][/caption]

On Wednesday Ben & I made a one day trip to Houston to visit my high school photography teacher, Mrs. Crocker. As I mention in my ‘About me’ in my info & pricing guide my high school photography teacher played a huge part into why I continued photography into college. After following me on facebook and keeping up with my blogs, she asked me to make a little presentation to her advanced photo classes. I was pretty excited and honored to be asked but not sure what to talk about! The day before I put together a powerpoint slideshow basically showing some of my old work, lens flares, hdrs, simple lighting, more complex lighting, studio work, prime lenses, the difference between a cropped and full frame sensor, and a little bit of the business side. Forty-five minutes was not enough to say everything I wanted to say, even though I had barely planned what to say! [so naturally I will be coming back :)]. Most students were pretty in to what I was saying, some more so than others of course, but it was really cool to just have the answers to what they wanted to know. I never thought I would be talking about having a successful photography business in the classroom that I once used to sit in. Cy-creek high school has changed SO MUCH since I graduated, I couldn’t even find my way around! They’ve been remodeling for a few years now. I ended up running into my sophomore English teacher, I don’t think she remembered me, but it was still cool.

I really hope I get to give more lectures in the future but for now I’ll just stick to high school students.

Ms. Sarah Tucker

Since my sophomore year of high school I have had the pleasure of knowing one of the most talented and sweetest people, Sarah. We met in chorale choir and it was obvious to everyone that she had an amazing talent for singing. We both continued schooling at Texas State and even lived together in the dorms for a little while. Last Saturday was her Senior Recital at Texas State and of course I wanted to photograph it.
I had been saving the date of April 25th specifically for her for months now and it was well worth it. Her show was truly amazing, she look and sounded amazing. She will be attending grad school in Cincinnati and although she will be quite far away from Texas I consider her a friend for life. She will be singing at my wedding and I will photograph hers.

Student Prince with Sarah Tucker & Jason Slayden
This is a video from The Student Prince with Sarah Tucker and her also amazingly talented boyfriend, Jason Slayden. Seeing a couple like them makes me so happy, not only because they are ridiculously happy together but also to know a couple that is truly passionate about one thing together, which reminds me of Ben & I.
I love you Sarah!
